Marin City Promise Neighborhood
A collective effort of residents, schools, nonprofits, and public agencies working together to ensure every child in Marin City thrives from cradle to career and is on a pathway to economic mobility.
About Marin City
Marin City is Marin County’s only historically Black neighborhood and a community with a rich legacy of resilience, culture, and leadership. Originally established during World War II as a shipbuilding community, Marin City has evolved into one of the county’s most diverse neighborhoods and remains home to generations of families deeply connected to its history and future.
Today, residents, community leaders, and local partners are coming together around a shared vision for Marin City — one that honors the neighborhood’s legacy while creating stronger pathways to opportunity for current and future generations.
The information in this community snapshot helps illustrate some of the conditions that continue to shape daily life and educational outcomes for Marin City children and families.
Marin City Promise Neighborhood Vision
It takes a whole neighborhood to help a child succeed. From a steady home to a healthy breakfast, from caring adults to strong schools, every part of a child’s neighborhood plays a role.
The Marin City Promise Neighborhood brings community partners together to better connect these supports around children and families. By supporting children across every stage of the cradle-to-career journey while also strengthening neighborhood conditions like housing, health, safety, and economic stability, this work aims to help more Marin City children and families thrive long term.
