Working Together: Sausalito Marin City School District Secures $3.4M for Early Childcare

November 29, 2022

The Sausalito Marin City K-readiness Team worked together for 3 years to increase access to affordable and culturally competent preschool. Due in part to their work, as well as partnerships with other organizations, the Sausalito Marin City School District has secured enough funding to offer free or low-cost early education and child care for up to 200 children.

The SMCSD Kindergarten Readiness/Pre-K Advisory Team, working together since 2019, successfully applied to both the General Childcare and Development contract (CTTR) and the California State Preschool Program (CSPP) contract to receive $2.4 Million and $995K annually. This new funding will support district Pre K partnerships and year round child care on both campuses, providing 120 after school slots for school age children (4-12 year olds), 32 slots for children 18 months – 3 years and 48 Pre-K slots for 3-4 year olds. This is part of S/MC School District’s plan to desegregate the district, by starting early.
